Daphne Portokaloglou (b. 1997, Thessaloniki, GR) is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Antwerp, Belgium. She has a Master’s in Film from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, GR and is currently doing a Master’s in Visual Arts at the Royal Academy Of Fine Arts, BE.
Her personal practice involves photography, film, mixed media and language based art, centered around themes of memory, trauma, healing and the sense of lyrical loneliness. The concept of intimacy and the interconnectedness between personal and collective trauma lie at the core of her work. Daphne approaches the term "documentary" in a conceptual way, prioritizing shared authorship and giving agency to the individuals she works with. Her practice is socially engaged and more about the process than a commodified outcome.
ALL ARTISTS ARE ALIKE. THEY ALL DREAM OF DOING SOMETHING MORE SOCIAL, MORE COLLABORATIVE AND MORE REAL THAN ART.
